碩士 / 國立東華大學 / 海洋生物多樣性及演化研究所 / 98 / Polymixiidae are deep-sea fishes. Limited studies on biology of the fish had been done. Taxonomy, age-growth and reproduction of the captures from deep-sea bottom trawling, angling and long-lining along the east, south and southwestern coasts of Taiwan between May 2008 and September 2009 were elucidated. Five Polymixiidae fishes of Taiwan were identified, namely Polymixia berndti (PB), P. japonica (PJ), P. longispina (PL), P. sazanovi (PS) and Polymixia sp. (PSp), with P. sazanovi the new record in Taiwan. Sizes of the fish were different among species, which PS was the largest with a mean±SD length of 352.9±58.0 mm. Sizes of PJ were medium (221.0±1.9 mm) to small (123.5±1.3 mm), while those of the remaining three species were small (116.3±6.7 mm-128.2±1.7 mm) to least (83.1±0.9 mm-89.1±2.6 mm). Lengths at sexual maturity were ca. 120 mm for PB and PL, while were 200 mm and 250 mm for PJ and PS, respectively. Spawning seasons lasted from March to July for PJ and February to April for PS. Otolith growth increments of Polymixiidae were formed annually in October to January. Ages determined by otolith annulus readings were 0-4 yrs (PB), 0-13 yrs (PJ), 0-7 yrs (PL), 4-16 yrs (PS) and 3-9 yrs (PSp). The asymptotic length 729.08 mm for PS was the largest, and 269.57 mm for PJ was the second largest among others (125.09-191.97 mm). The growth coefficient 0.05 yr-1 for PS was the lowest among all others (0.15-0.39 yr-1). Growth performance indices for the 5 Polymixiidae fishes were 3.68-4.42.
