Association Between Male Violent Crimes and Genetic Polymorphisms of 5-HTT and CODIS / 血清素運輸蛋白及CODIS基因多型性與男性暴力犯罪之關聯性研究

碩士 / 國防醫學院 / 生物化學研究所 / 98 / This study is to investigate the possible association between the male violent crime and genetic polymorphism of serotonin transporter and CODIS, Combined DNA Index System. Recent, the two studies came from Korea and Taiwan, respectively, have shown inconsistent results requarding the association between serotonin transporter genetic polymorphism and violent crimes. And, no scientific report shows the positive assocition between CODIS and violent crime behavior. Therefore, in this study, 391 male subjects with life imprisonment and randomly selected 131 male controls without criminal records were choosed to reexamine the relationship. Genetic polymorphism of serotonin transport and CODIS were evaluated by the chi-square test and logistic regression methods. The result of chi-square analysis showed significant differences in 5-HTTLPR genotype- and allele- frequency distribution between subjects of violent crime with life imprisonment and control without criminal records. And the result of logistic regression analysis showed a significant association between violent crime with life imprisonment and CODIS STR loci of TPOX, D21S11, and D18S51. These 3 loci and another CODIS STR locus FGA are shown to associate with bandit behavior. These CODIS STR loci related to the criminal acts are the non-coding sequences, such as D18S51 and TPOX, are located in introns of bcl-2 and thyroid peroxidase genes, respectively. As it has been noted in the literature of non-coding sequence can affect gene expression. Therefore, these CODIS STR loci whether and how they affect gene expression, and thereby have a bearing on crime, will be subject to further study. This study shows the potential genetic loci and genotypes assoicated with violent crimes and provides an unprecedented direction for the future research.
