碩士 / 國立高雄海洋科技大學 / 漁業生產與管理研究所 / 98 / This study is aimed to investigate the reproductive biology of big head pennah croaker, Pennahia macrocephalus, in the coastal waters off southwestern Taiwan. A total of 1,110 specimens were collected monthly from the catches of trawl between September 2008 to September 2009, from the landings on Ketzliau fish market of Zihguan Township, Kaohsiung County. By means of histological examination and the oocyte development can be clearly categorized into nine stages as:(1) chromatin-nucleolus stage, (2) peri-nucleolus stage, (3) Yolk vesicle stage, (4) primary yolk stage, (5) secondary yolk, (6) tertiary yolk stage, (7) migratory nucleus stage, (8) ripe stage, (9)Postovulatory follicle. While the ovaries development was divided into three stages as:(1) immature stage, (2) maturing stage, (3) maturity stage. Based on the group maturity rate,frequency of oocyte diameter, histological examination of ovary and estimations of gonadosomatic index, the spawning season was from May to October but the peak was observed from July to September. The spawning type is asynchronous. Mean fecundity and mean batch fecundity of this species were estimated as 30511 to 151641(oocyte diameter above 0.1mm) and 5950 to 51709 (oocyte diameter above 0.31mm) respectively, The relationships between fecundity(F), batch fecundity(BF)and ovarian weight (OW) were obtained as the follows : F=20945OW+16177 (r²=0.684), BF=9998.4OW–6826(r²=0.695). The sex ratio for all specimens combined data was 55% and significantly different was found by chi-squared test. Respectively size at 50%maturity of female and male estimated from the logistic model were 15.9 cm and 14.8 cm, and the size at first maturity of female and male estimated were 11.7 cm and 11.5 cm, respectively.
