Wind power is expected to contribute significantly to the renewable energy targets owing to advancements in wind technologies, falling capital costs, abundance of free resource and commercial viability. However, it also brings into a lot of new challenges for the power network planning and operation. Wind energy resource at Penghu is among the best in the world. The submarine cable connecting Taiwan and Penghu is currently in the planning phase, and onshore/offshore wind farms at Penghu will be developed in the future. On the other hand, in the initial planning phase, it is necessary to investigate and evaluate the current situation and future trend for the electricity sources and load consumers at Penghu, comparison and evaluation of four types of wind turbines, and the grid codes of wind power system all over the world. Furthermore, it is significant to perform various transient impact analyses, including the impact of system faults on wind farms and the effects of wind speed fluctuation and wind farm faults on the system. The results from the above research works would provide the important guides for the determination of wind power installation capacity at Penghu. In this thesis, system impact analysis for the future large-scale offshore wind farm around penghu archipelago will be studied. In addition, onshore wind farm planning and system impact analysis at Penghu island will also be discussed. These simulations have been carried out by using the PSS/E software, and the system parameters have been planned according to several technical reports and academic literatures. The simulation results would provide significant information to future wind energy planning at Penghu area.
