Biodiesel Potential from Local Microalgae / 本土性微藻之生質能源潛勢研究

Development and Utilization of biofuel have attracted many attention compare to other green energy. Usable biofuel includes biodiesel, bioethanol, biohydrogen, biomethane, etc. The advantages of microalgae such as photosynthetic efficiency, biomass production and growth is better if compared to terrestrial plant resulting in using microalgae as the biofuel ingredients which is easy to get and has the potential to develop. Some of the microalgae have the characteristic of becoming a highly potential biofuel that are important in producing it such as rich in lipid, polysaccharides, etc. Differences in the species of microalgae and growing method will affect the biofuel’s contents. The main part for this field is how to produce biofuel from raw material and culture method in order to increase the production of biofuel.

This study is to investigate the important factors that influence the production of the biofuel by local freshwater Chodatella sp. From the result of this study, Chodatella sp. is better to culture in 30℃ and adding in 20 mL/d.L of carbon dioxide, or limiting the nitrogen in the culture medium. Among the factors, temperature, light intensity, nitrogen source and addition of carbon dioxide are the most significant. If light intensity and temperature appear together, they will effect each others and influences the production of biofuel. The production of the lipid, polysaccharides, and calorific value productivity is higher in Isochrysis galbana under culture condition of light intensity in 800 μ mol. m-2. s-, addition of 20 mL/d. L carbon dioxide and restriction of nitrogen source. Light intensity, carbon dioxide and nitrogen are among the more important factors in increasing the production of biofuel especially the addition of the carbon dioxide. When the light intensity and temperature appear at the same time, they will effect each others in producing the microalgae’s biofuel.
