The research of the paper cutting techniques on poster design and creation of Taiwanese wedding traditions / 以剪紙技法表現之臺灣傳統婚俗海報設計創作研究

The traditional marriage rituals are complicated and tedious but they have been changed accordingly. However the newlyweds are still troubled by them which mean that the traditional marriage rituals are strictly respected by nowadays society. The traditional Taiwanese marriage rituals still keep the spirits of the ancient Chinese marriage, “6 etiquettes “, which is full of the ancestors wisdom and blessings and has profound meanings and anecdotes which have vast amount of values to inherit and research. The Chinese folk art of paper cut which is full of pure, down-to-earth and sincere characteristics is what people rely on for their spiritual lives and are wildly used in the traditional marriage celebration. Posters, on the other hand, are the media which combines the drawing and designing which can change the visual environments and uplift the perception of beauty and furthermore construct the images of the society and the nation. This research is trying to combine the two traditional themes and artistic forms in order to produce new visual sparks. As a result, the folk art of paper cut blends into the poster designing to redefine the meanings of the traditional Taiwanese marriage culture. Throughout the arrangement and colleting of the research, on one hand, the production keeps the Taiwanese indigenous cultural vales and on the other hand, unites the spirits of the folk art of paper cut; furthermore enters new display and design concepts, explores in a series of posters in order to demonstrate the important anecdotes and meanings of each marriage tradition and ritual. It is expected that based on this research, one can increase the understandings of the traditional marriage cultures and enhance the attention on marriage values and also to conserve and glorify the uniqueness of the Taiwanese marriage cultures. It is also expected that the production of the thesis and the display of the posters, solid conclusions and suggestions can be derived, and critics are welcomed for future improvement and changes.
