碩士 / 國立臺南大學 / 生物科技學系碩士班 / 98 / Low dose of sunlight exposure can promote Vitamin D synthesis in skin cells. For medical science, ultraviolet(UV)irradiation can also be applied to treat some human diseases. However, over-exposure of UV will lead to DNA damage for human skin or eye, and in some cases leading to skin tumor. The purpose of this research is to use zebrafish to screen new chemical compounds for sun protection. We noticed zebrafish embryos are very sensitivity for UV irradiation. After short term UVB exposure, fin tissues will display reduce or absent phenotype, especially
in pelvic and caudal fin. Initially, we pre-treated zebrafish embryos in 10
uM chemical compounds for 24hr, exposure embryos to UVB irradiation
and then observe the morphological changes of fin and measure the
pelvic and caudal fin area. This strategy leads us to identify several
chemical compounds which extracted from Lichen can protect zebrafish
fin from UVB damage and will be the potential new drugs for sun
protection in the future.
