碩士 / 國立臺灣師範大學 / 美術學系 / 98 / Image composition is a creative technique which combines a series of verbal symbols and graphics to compose a painting. Nowadays, we are overwhelmed with scattered memories and graphic symbols. We can use this technique to assemble our fragmented visual experiences of life and society into a meaningful narrative painting. The characteristic features of this creative technique are deliberately composed of a way such as composite, geometric, and virtual.
Using image composition as its core, this study is divided into three different levels: first, the theoretical base explains the meaning of graphics and symbols in artistic creation which is on the basis of western iconography and semiology. In addition, symbolism and surrealism in painting are used to analyze and discuss the meaning of image composition and its influence on ink paintings. Second, this focuses on a study of the image composition techniques of ink painting artists. Examples are given of ink painting artists who use image composition as a creative technique. Their works are analyzed and explained from the points of view of their creative ideals and philosophies. Third, the study talks about the personal creative technique. Based on the previous two levels, the author analyzes its own creative ideals, the meaning of the subject, the technique of expression, and the description of this work.
The author’s creation is using image composition as its manifestations. Through the composition of graphics and symbols, along with western split face block technique. For composing the paintings, use stones and fishes to mimicry, and to combine the wrinkle technique and frottage technique along with color blocks and golden edges. Through this image composition research, the author wishes to create a brand new technique and to make his own way of creation more clearly.
