The Accumulation and Elimination of Arsenic in Oreochromis spp. Following Immersion of Different Concentration / 不同砷濃度對吳郭魚組織蓄積及排除之影響

The purpose of this study is to investigate the accumulation of arsenic in tilapia (Oreochromis spp.) which kept in water added with 0 μg/l, 50 μg/l, 100 μg/l, 1000 μg/l and 2000 μg/l of arsenic concentrations for the first 10 days. Fish that previously kept in water added with arsenic were then transferred into water without arsenic at day 10. After that, muscle, liver, blood, skin, intestine, stomach, spleen and gill tissue were sampled at day 1, 2, 4, 8, 10, 15 and 25.
The result showed that the highest concentration of arsenic in blood, liver, intestine, gill, stomach and spleen were observed at day 10, which were 370.46 ± 32.21 ng/g, 569.96 ± 112.75 ng/g, 1984.01 ± 224.88 ng/g, 4847.23 ± 79.67 ng/g, 1782.00 ± 486.75 ng/g and 771.53 ± 123.76 ng/g, respectively; whereas muscle and skin showed the highest arsenic concentration at day 8, which were 875.21 ± 120.77 ng/g and 317.32 ± 122.72 ng/g, respectively. Arsenic was accumulated in the organs of fish in the order of gill > intestine > stomach > muscle > spleen > liver > skin > blood.
After transferring the fish from water added with arsenic into water without arsenic, arsenic concentrations in fish were decreased. Arsenic concentrations in muscle, blood, liver, intestine, skin, gills, stomach and spleen at day 25 were reduced by 73.00%, 89.27%, 74.01%, 89.48%, 55.47%, 96.60%, 86.35% and 78.45% compared to arsenic concentration at day 10. From the result, arsenic concentration at day 25 were decreased in the order of gills > intestine > blood > stomach > spleen > liver > muscle > skin. Gill showed the fastest elimination rate of arsenic whereas skin showed the lowest elimination rate of arsenic.
