Systematics and Distributions of Family Ogcocephalidae (Order Lophiiformes), With Reviews of Indo-Pacific Genera / 棘茄魚科(鮟鱇魚目)之系統分類以及地理分布研究暨印度太平洋各屬之重新檢視

博士 / 國立臺灣海洋大學 / 海洋生物研究所 / 98 / The results of present study include three topics: review of all Indo-Pacific genera; provide a hypothesis of phylogeny of all genera; and provided the biogeography of family Ogcocephalidae.
Seven genera with 55 species are recognized from the Indo-Pacific Ocean, including 7 species in Coelophrys; 14 species in Halieutopsis; 1 species in Dibranchus; 4 species in Solocisquama; 15 species in Halieutaea; 6 species in Halicmetus; and 8 species in Malthopsis. Totally 18 new species are recognized.
Osteologial and morphological characters are used for the first time to diagnose genera and species. A neotype or lectotype is chosen for five species without primary type. Status of questionable species, wrongly placed synonym names and misidentifications are revised.
Monophyly for the family Ogcocephalidae was confirmed and phylogenetic relationships of all ten genera are proposed. Coelophrys is considered to be basal in position relative to all other ogcocephalids; and the Halieutopsis, Solociaquama, Halieutaea, Dibranchus, Halicmetus, and Halieutichthys diverge next to each in sequential position. Malthopsis, Ogcocephalus and Zalieutes are the most derived genera, but their relationship is still uncertain.
Distribution of each genus and species in the Indo-Pacific ocean is provided. Discussions are made for horizontal distribution, vertical distribution, and biogeographic hypothesis. Some hypotheses are proposed, including the evolutionary trend of ogcocephalids was from Indo-Pacific to Eastern Pacific, and then Atlantic; from deep waters to shallow waters; and the depth is the main factor for the batfish distribution.
