A study on competence indicators of ocean science for junior high school students in Keelung / 基隆市國中生具備海洋科學能力指標之研究

碩士 / 國立臺灣海洋大學 / 海洋環境資訊學系 / 98 / This study started with designing questionnaires according to the competence indicators of ocean science and followed by analysis of the result while the questionnaires were done by the 9th grade in Keelung. Current curriculum, competence, and gender the difference between two schools are also presented in the study. It is anticipated that such results can provide guidelines for the development of ongoing reformation of compulsory education in Taiwan.
As the results show, the 9th grade in Keelung performed well in the ideas of “plate tectonics and landforms on the seabed” but had lowest pass ratio in the idea of “the ocean physics.” The reason for this consequence is whether the ideas are involved in the current curriculum or not. Besides, gender and school are not the main factor in the competence of ocean science according to the analysis. The 9th grade are lacking of some competence in the following aspects even they are already integrated in the current curriculum: 1) the ratio between ocean and land; 2) the convection type of cold air mass and warm air mass; 3)the definition of cyclone and anticyclone; 4) the relation during ebb than flood tides and the sand in the river mouth; 5) the buoyancy of the floaters; 6) the pressure under the sea surface; 7) the relation between the people activities, soil salinization, land subsidence and seawater intrusion. There are three suggestions in the end: 1) to arrange some elements with lower pass ratio in the teaching materials; 2) to take or edit the proper materials which are according to the competence indicators; 3) some concepts are lacks of the current curriculum should be emphasized in the future.
