A Study on the Perceptions of Marine Education Knowledge and Love of the Sea by the Sixth-graders in Taipei County Elementary Schools / 臺北縣國民小學六年級學生海洋教育知識與親海知覺之調查研究

This essay intends to investigate the relationship between marine education information and the love for the sea of sixth graders in elementary schools in Taipei County. It also discusses the current learning situations of these students’ knowledge of marine education and their love for the sea, and hopes to serve as a basis for promoting marine education for educational institutions and schools in Taipei County.

Adopting questionnaire survey, the research uses self-designed questionnaire “A Study on the Relationship between Marine Knowledge and Love for the Sea of Sixth Graders in Elementary Schools in Taipei County,” and chooses sixth-grade students in public elementary schools in Taipei County as subjects. Totally 1100 questionnaires are distributed, and then 1071 are collected. Valid questionnaires amount to 1069, and thus the recall rate is 97%. Statistic methods used to analyze data from the questionnaires include frequency distribution percentage, mean and standard deviation, Cronbachαcoefficient, independent sample T-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffe method, and Pearson correlation analysis. The main findings are as follows:
1.Television programs are the main source of marine education information for sixth graders in elementary schools in Taipei County.
2.Sixth graders in elementary schools in Taipei County have certain amount of marine education information.
3.Parents’ professions do not have evident influence on students’ marine information learning.
4.Students’ experiences of marine activities do not have evident influence on their marine information learning, but have influence on their love for the sea and therefore students yearn for curriculum related to marine activities.
5.There is no difference between different genders in learning marine education and their love for the sea.
6.Students in urban areas perform better than students in non-urban areas in marine education.
7.Sixth graders in elementary schools in Taipei County lack marine cultural literacy.
8.There is positive relation between students’ knowledge of marine education and their love for the sea.
