The purposes of this study were to analyze the teachers’ viewpoints of the faculty learning community and teacher professional development and to examine their relationship in the case school. Finally, based on the findings of this study, some suggestions were given.
This study adopted the literature analysis and questionnaire survey to achieve the purposes stated above. Through literature analysis, relevant research articles about learning organization、faculty learning community、adult learning and teacher professional development were gathered and analyzed, which were the foundation of the self-developed questionnaire. The sample population was 152 community members who attended the faculty learning community in the academic year in 97 at National Taiwan Ocean University, and 131 copies were returned. After deducting invalid ones, the valid questionnaires used for analysis were 129(84.87%). The researcher used mean, standard deviation, t-test, one-way ANOVA, and correlation analysis to process statistical data.
The main findings of this study as follows:
1. Community members approved the effect upon the faculty learning community, but felt that difficulties about modifying individualism, revising the teaching materials depending on students needing to be overcome.
2. Community members approved the positive interaction in faculty learning community was the foundation of teacher professional development.
3. The differences in age and position had influence on the community members’ sense of faculty learning community.
4. The differences in sex et al. factors have no influence on the community members’ sense of teacher professional development.
5. The senses of faculty learning community and teacher professional development have highly correlated.
