Age and growth of the stonefish, Setarches longimanus in the northeastern waters off Taiwan / 台灣東北部海域囊頭鮋年齡與成長之研究

碩士 / 國立臺灣海洋大學 / 環境生物與漁業科學學系 / 98 / The stonefish, Setarches longimanus, were caught by bottom trawlers which operated in the waters off northeastern Taiwan. A total of 1574 specimens (829 males, 745 females) were collected from Dashi fish market, Yilan County from September 2008 to September 2009. According to the monthly variation of marginal increment rate (MIR) , the growth band of otolith was found to be formed once per year , and the opaque bands of both females and males started to form during March and April every year, and the maximum number of growth bands were counted to be 11 for female and 9 for male, respectively. Von Bertalanffy growth parameters based on 525 specimens were estimated as followings: asymptotic standard length L∞=18.43 cm, growth coefficient k=0.1559 /yr, and t0=-0.6634 yr, growth performance index ø'=1.72 for females; L∞=17.22 cm, k=0.188 yr, and t0=-0.321 yr, ø'=1.75 for males. The ages at maturity were estimated to be 7.1 and 6.7 yr old for females and males, respectively. The largest female aged from otolith was 11.25 yrs old and the largest male was 9.17 yrs old. The maximum longevity were estimated to be 18.55 and 15.62 yr for females and males, respectively.
