Using Voyage Position and Logbooks Data to Analyze the Fishing Activity of Small and Medium Scale of Bull-Trawl Fishery in the Southwestern Waters of Taiwan / 利用船位及漁撈日誌資料分析台灣西南海域中小型雙拖網漁業活動之特性

碩士 / 國立臺灣海洋大學 / 環境生物與漁業科學學系 / 98 / Daily catch and VDR (Voyage data recorder) data of 10 trawling vessels (20-50 Ton) were utilized in order to investigate spatial and temporal distribution of their catch composition, abundance, and CPUE (Catch Per Unit Effort) in the southwestern waters of Taiwan in 2008 with the integration of GIS (Global Information System). Fishing ground was found to be geographically located in the latitude of 22.3~22.5°N and longitude of 120.3~120.6°E. It can be further divided into two horizontal areas by the connection between Kao-Pin river’s inslet and Little Liou-Ciou island, including the northern zone (Xiao-Gang to Lyn-Yuan) and southern zone (Dong-Gang to Fang-Liao). While the majority of catch were trash fish species, various commercial fish (15 families and 19 species) were recognized and mainly composed of Trichiurus lepturus, Leiognathus splendens, Trachurus japonicas, and Drepane punctata. The comparison of monthly CPUE indicated that the above four commercial fish species had higher CPUE in coast water of Dong-Gang to Fang-Liao between August and October. Above all it is feasible to investigate the CPUE of major fishing species in the southwestern waters of Taiwan using catch and VDR records of trawling vessels. Unlike the traditional approach, the utilization of VDR is not restricted to perform the point-based analysis, which is more suitable for trawl fisheries research since it is capable to perform the plane-based analysis data using track records from both vessel and trawl net.
