CONVERTING OCEAN CURRENTS INTO MECHANICAL ENERGY / 轉換海流動能為機械能

碩士 / 國立臺灣海洋大學 / 輪機工程系 / 98 / Abstract

Ocean currents are a kind of huge and pure energy sources. Many countries are attempting to retract this energy from the flow field. Generally using the revolving blades or turbine generating systems will produce low pressure region in the flow field. Any objects such as animals, sea plants, or etc. could be attracted by the low pressure and cause the generating set damaged. It would be a huge expense for the repair, maintenance or renewal of the equipments.

Ocean currents are just like the highway in the sea, where many sea creatures are living on it. They must be allowed to live freely in the ocean environments while the blades are extracting energy from the flow field without hurting them. With simple structure, the converting equipments turn kinetic energy of currents into mechanical energy and also must keep at peace with all the creatures in the sea.

Energy of ocean currents are extracted by oscillating equipments without forming the rotating low pressure region and attracting and hurting sea animals, which provide a much safer underwater environment. In this thesis, a simple design of oscillation is proposed to provide energy extraction with easier production, installation, maintenance and repair.
