A Study on the Ships’ Attempts Against Piracy / 船舶因應海盜行為之研究

碩士 / 國立臺灣海洋大學 / 商船學系所 / 98 / In recent years, the amount of vessels has been rocketing up due to the prosperous development of sea transportation. Along with increasing international economy, maritime criminal activities also emerge with an endless stream. Among them, piracies and armed robberies are the most serious threat to maritime order and navigation safety. Under the threat of piracy, international organizations, governments, shipping companies and crewmembers should be well aware of the situation and draw countermeasures in response to the worsening problem.

This study quotes the data from “Piracy and armed robbery against ships ” reports issued by International Maritime Organization from 2000 to 2008. It aims to analyze and discuss modus operandi and high-risk waters of piracy activities in different areas by statistic and analysis. It also collects domestic and international strategies against piracy and armed robbery. After comparison and analysis, it integrates the above-mentioned data and proposes practical measures against for the reference of government agencies and navigation business. Hope to reduce the risk of pirates’ attacks or armed robberies, and ensure the safety of maritime transportation.
