碩士 / 國立臺灣海洋大學 / 商船學系所 / 98 / Coating is the best way for ship anti-corrosion. The economic life of a ship heavily depends on the coating selection which is suitable or not. In order to reduce the running cost, ship-owners always select the cheaper or the cheapest one for the initial cost of the ship instead of the long term consideration. As a result, an unavoidable damage is easily to happen. A number of ship catastrophes were found in the past because of incorrect selection of coating.
This study tries to lay out a process for selecting program for the cargo holds’ coating of bulk carrier vessels, based on safety, reliable, and the economic points of view of a ship running.
The holds of a large size bulk carrier, in general, is coated by two-component Epoxy resin paint. The said paint is used because of its’ factors of such as contents, characteristic and the requirements of ship construction etc. The study is to find out the weights of the mentioned factors by questionnaires administering to the ship owners, and visiting the related professionals. Furthermore, the most suitable paint is selected for the cargo holds by Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP).
Calculating capital recovery factor based on the above data and compare to real capital, such as initial cost, period cost, maintenance cost per period and so on to check if the study and the ship are in coincidence. The result is positive.
Correct selection of coating would maintain the cargo hold of bulk carrier to an optimizing condition, this would lead to cost down to a reasonable level.
