碩士 / 國立臺灣科技大學 / 設計研究所 / 98 / The purpose of this design creation is to apply the characteristics of growing and breeding microalgae onto the design of indoor air purification device through study of literatures and actual examples of biological carbon fixation via algae bioreactor. According to literature and datum from actual examples, microalgae uses carbon dioxide as its nutrient resource when growing, photosynthesizes when illuminated transforming carbon dioxide to oxygen and release resulting oxygen back into the air, and can perform carbon fixation three times a forest of the same size.
The design in this research focuses on the algae bioreactor used by Taiwan Power Company (TPC) over its thermal power plants for the purpose of carbon fixation, and then takes the TPC concept reducing carbon dioxide with microalgae and extends its usage to indoor space. Experiments were conducted and prototypes were built to assimilate the theoretical microalgae air purification device resulting in two final design creations after confirmation of product’s operation model and structure.
The direction of this design is twosome, pump and helix, according to the method of air traction, and the light source needed for microalgae growth is in combination of lighting design, indoor night lighting and atmospheric lighting, to create added value of the end product in hope to apply concept of carbon fixation and algae bioreactor to the design of everyday appliance and attain purified air within indoor space through use of product design and development, utilization of existing technology and study of related literature.
