碩士 / 世新大學 / 經濟學研究所(含碩專班) / 98 / After the global financial crisis, Taiwan faces a substantial economic recession, and hence the impact on the labor market is enormous. “No pay leave” had become a public vocabulary. Laborers were forced to work part time and accept lower salaries. Previous literature only focuses on the discussion of unemployment and labor force participation. This dissertation tries to analyze the effects of global financial crisis on part-time workers in Taiwan.
Using the 2007-2009 monthly data of Man Power Survey, this study divides part -time workers into two groups: “voluntary” and “involuntary”. By the analysis of difference-in-differences, it is observed that working hours of part-time workers changes significantly after the global financial crisis. In addition, individual characteristics do have effects on the working hours of part-time workers.
According to the empirical results of OLS, Truncated regression and Tobit model, the treatment effect of D-I-D coefficient is positive while taking voluntary part-time workers as control group, which means involuntary part-time workers actually increase their working hours after the global financial crisis.
