碩士 / 樹德科技大學 / 應用設計研究所 / 98 / The abundant aquatic resources and diligent, persistent fishermen have shaped splendid marine culture and diverse fishery culture in the Penghu area. Fishery, a unique yet complicated industry, is the center of the lives of coastal residents, regardless of their age or gender. Developing unique fishery culture that is embodied in daily life to accommodate to the environment is even an example of historical evolution. As Penghu Islands are surrounded by the ocean, fishery has long become one of the major industries in this area. In addition to fishing devices and techniques which are highly involved in the historical process and transition of fishery that originated a long time ago, vessels are the tool that directly impacts fishermen’s daily life culture, and hull patterns are the most distinctive part.

As transition continues, however, the number of fishing vessels with distinctive decorative patterns is decreasing. In order to preserve records about the decorative fishing vessel hull patterns unique to the Penghu area, this paper targeted the implication and application of decorative fishing vessel hull patterns to investigate the connection between decorative fishing vessel hull patterns and fishermen’s culture. This study created a database of the types, colors and styles of decorative fishing vessel hull patterns currently observable in the Penghu area, analyzed the applicable norms for the formation of such patterns, and investigated the hull colors, decorative patterns and applicable scope. Through the analysis of the hull colors and decorative patterns on local vessels, this study aimed to identify the correlation between decorative fishing vessel hull patterns and Penghu fishermen’s daily life and culture, as well as the applicable norms, in order to create a database and provide reference for relevant studies in the future.
