碩士 / 南台科技大學 / 數位內容與動畫設計研究所 / 98 / Up to now, the local people in the southwest coast of Taiwan still hold the mystical
and solemn Wang-ye Boat festival to worship the sea god. Burning Wang-Ye (plague
god) Boat means to drive the diseases and evils out. After over 300 years, the festival
has developed to an activity for blessing and benediction. It is not only a splendid and
varied ritual also a special and various folk festival. It reflects more than the local
people’s common and deep cultural thoughts, and stands for the ocean spirit in Taiwan,
and it also shows Taiwanese’s adoration to Nature. This creation involves three major
elements— Wang-Ye Boat festival, Carp God (one incarnation of plague god) and eight
generals of gods. These elements were re-created and transformed to interpretation, and
featured more stories and more dramatic and legendary characters to create the original
animation with local characteristics.
First of all, through review of literature about Wang-Ye Boat Festival, we
understood the subject deeply, organized the creation element, and extracted the core
idea of creation. Secondly, we realized the Three-Act skeleton, the principles and
process of script writing by the review of script writing. In addition, through the
analysis of animated cartoon such as "Spirited Away" and " Tekkon Kinkreet ," we
thought over the proper narrative technique to efficiently convey the concept of this work.
The main purpose of this work is to present the culture of Taiwan and demonstrates
the local visual style and review self-life experiences. Through creative scripts research
methods, self-observation record completely creation of the process; Thinking narrative
techniques and visual language presentation, the project of " Cyprinoid‧Festival" is
expected to complete the public broadcast, probe into the topic of "Faith and Hope,"
lead to sub-topic about "Heritage and Courage", and convey Taiwan's traditional local
spirit and cultural meaning.
In conclusion, this creation and its value were reviewed and the future direction of
the extended creation was proposed as well.
