Mass Transit Demand Analysis:Evidence from Taipei Mass Rapid Transit(MRT) / 大眾運輸需求因素之探討-以台北捷運為例

碩士 / 東海大學 / 經濟系 / 98 / This paper focuses on analysis of mass transit demand within Taipei metropolitan area by using monthly time series data from March 1996 to June 2009. We use linear form model, We control for various transit networks (MRT-transfer, Bus-transfer, and stops in MRT) to examine the effects on mass transit ridership. We find that the effects on mass transit ridership are mostly significant when controlling the MRT-transfer (transit network). In log-log model, we use the same robustness check to examine the effects on mass transit ridership and find the similar pattern as in linear model. The results show that those factors: MRT-transfer, population density, average household expenses, events and transport-related policy are important factors for mass transit demand. We also find that the effect of density of financial institutions on MRT ridership is positively significant, and this means business development in metropolitan area is also an important factor to increase mass transit demand.
