A study of vertical mixing of waters northeast off Taiwan / 臺灣東北部海域垂直混合現象之探討

碩士 / 中央警察大學 / 水上警察研究所 / 99 / The temporal and spatial variation about the vertical mixing of waters northeast off Taiwan was analyzed by means of CTD and sb-ADCP current data collected in spring, summer, and autumn. Water mass analysis was applied to examine the seasonal compositions, growth and decline of water masses in this region. The result indicated that during the seasons of spring, summer, and autumn, significant upwelling occurred mostly in the regions with rapid change of topography. In those areas, the vectical structure of ocean met the conditions of dynamic instability. The analysis of water masses also revealed that the main ingredients were Kuroshio-related waters, including the Kuroshio surface water, the Kuroshio subsurface water, and the Kuroshio intermediate water. Companying the surrounding water masses (the East China Sea water and the Taiwan Strait water) intruded in turn with seasons. During spring, Kuroshio-related waters were mixed with the East China Sea water, while the Taiwan Strait water replaced the East China Sea water in the other two seasons. The above conclusions consisted with the previous research works.
