An Investigation of Ecological Pond Scheme, Management and Environmental Benefits of Elementary Schools at Taichung County, Taiwan / 臺中縣國小校園水生池規劃管理與環境效益之調查研究

碩士 / 大葉大學 / 工學院碩士在職專班 / 99 / The environmental education has been booming since 1970 in Taiwan. Ecological ponds on campus become one of the natural classrooms for environmental education study.
We aim to investigate the followings: Varying ecological ponds’effects on environment, setting up more space for biodiversity enhancement, improving the opportunity of environmental education.
Based on the above results, we are able to use them as reference for ecological ponds build-up on campus. 94 ecological ponds of elementary schools at Chunghwa county were selected as the sources of surveying, we tested water quality of ponds and interviewed the representatives from 2 model schools. The survey results showed that scenery-type ponds including water lily、umbrella plant、water hyacinth、water cabbage and lotus are most popular in the schools of Taichung county; aquatic species such as: mosquito fish、carp and tilapia are mostly abundant. Considering the safety of students playing in pond the depth of ponds is in the range of safety. Plenty of ground water is the major water resources, however, lack of rainfall and polluted water recycling planning in these schools. Due to the variety of biodiversity in ecological-learning type, apparent environmental education can be found out in it. There seems need to set up ecological and imitated ecological planning for these schools. The main drawback in these school is lack of maintenance and budget to manage these ponds.
Our suggestions are as follows: Guild up biodiversity ponds and develop a specific ones in conjunction with adjacent environmental resources. A sustainable environmental development can be attained by carrying out some activities related to environmental education. Educate teachers majoring in environmental ecology. Promote the sustainable development of ecological ponds on campus. Share network platform of environmental ecology for more information exchange and biological resources distribution. Lastly, integrate varying ecological resources and upgrade the environmental effects of ponds in these schools.
