The Dragon Boat Race in Lu-Gang was one of the earliest folk cultural activities in Taiwan which has been lasted for over thirty years. However, the folk cultural activity has been overstepped by many other counties. It’s important to find the problems. We listed all the differences between the Dragon Boat Race in Tainan city and Lu-Gang, the problems to be improved, the budget and personnel affairs, the racing space, the training of the judges, the coaches and the rudders, the revising of the racing procedure, the assisting of network and electronic equipments. In case that all these problems could be improved, the Dragon Boat Race in Lu-Gang will be more perfect and last long.
The conclusion of the research was that if the local government and the responsible officials felt in duty and took the Dragon Boat Race seriously, it would be helpful to the promotion of the folk activity. The most important key point was the human factor which was the resources of all activities. That is, the will of the head of a county and the mayor of a city greatly influenced the promotion and the success of the Dragon Boat Race due to that it was the local government’s unshirkable responsibility to combine the folk traditions with characteristic festival activities, such as creative culture and traditional arts which could bring prosperity to the local economy and loose the tourism by delicate operating to the folk activity.
