Abstract
Sha Menghai (1900-1992) was expert in Archaeology, Seal Cutting and Classical Literature, but famous in Calligraphy Art finally. In 1996, he was voted the most influenced calligrapher the fouth of top twenty, the other three are Wu Chang-Shuo, Sun Tsen-Tsu, Kong Yu-Wei.Almost a centry of Calligraphic career, passing through Cultural Revolution and the impact of the dynastic change, Sha Menghai had trained himself to be a man with strait and strong character. With no doubt, the achievement of his calligraphy art has become a tipical sample in modern China, especially the Baang-Su, so extraordinary that very few people can achieve the realm. That’s why he was honored and titled “The Calligraphy Tycoon”, “Sha Menghai the number one in China for Baang-Su”. With his sensitivity, he aggressively absorbed new concept and methods, and highly fertilized the field of Calligraphy. To view Sha Menghai’s contribution for all his life, he unselfishly gave back to the public with what he had got, even more he widened people’s view to Calligraphy Art. He made Calligraphy Art shining.Sha Menghai is an artist, also an educater, so many books he had published, so wide ranges of the knowledge he had studied, that a common essay can’t cover the all. This paper is merely a study of Calligraphy Art for Sha Menghai.
