The Effect of Reading Attitude and Reading Strategy on Reading Literacy- The Cases of Shanghai, Hong Kong, Korea and Taiwan in PISA 2009 / 閱讀態度與閱讀策略對閱讀素養之影響—以PISA 2009上海、香港、韓國與臺灣為例

碩士 / 明道大學 / 課程與教學研究所 / 99 / The purpose of this study was to explore the effect of reading attitude and reading strategy on reading literacy. This research was employed the PISA 2009 databases of Shanghai, Hong Kong, Korea and Taiwan. The total number of the students included in the study was 20,312. The independent variables were gender, nation, reading attitude and reading strategy, while the dependent variable was reading literacy. To discover the prediction of reading attitude and reading strategy on reading literacy among students, SPSS 18.0 was used, which was processed by descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA and regression analysis.

Findings were summarized as follows:
1. In terms of reading attitude and reading strategy, there were significant differences between boys and girls. Girls performed better than boys.
2. There were significant differences in reading attitude of students from different countries. Besides, their reading strategies had significant differences, too. Students in Shanghai had the best reading attitude. Hong Kong and Korean students used more reading strategies.
3. There were significant differences in reading literacy between spontaneity reading attitude and tool-oriented reading attitude.
4. There were significant differences in reading literacy between metacognitive reading strategy and cognitive reading strategy.
5. Reading attitude was correlated to reading literacy. Their realtionship was moderate positive correlation (r =.413).
6. Reading strategy was correlated to reading literacy. Their realtionship was low positive correlation (r =.320).
7. Reading attitude and reading strategy accounted for the variance of reading literacy, tool-oriented reading attitude was the most explanatory among the predictors.

Finally, pedagogical implications and suggestions for parents, practices and further studies were provided based on the research findings.
