A Study of Scouring and Deposition Problem Analysis and ItsStrategy for the Estuary of Tou-Cian River / 頭前溪河口沖淤問題分析及對策研究

碩士 / 國立中興大學 / 水土保持學系所 / 99 / As the river mouth is influenced by the joint forces of water in the upper reaches of the river, ocean currents, and floods caused by typhoon and the rise of sea level caused by the global warming, the changes of sediment erosion and deposition will influence the flood control and local development of the river mouth area. Moreover, with the abnormal climate and extreme hydrological events in recent years, much more attention should be paid to the river mouth improvement. Therefore, it is a significant subject for river management workers to understand changes in estuarine erosion and deposition and further propose countermeasures to prevent flood.
Taking the mouth of Toucian River as the research object, the researcher summarizes and analyzes the relevant physiographic, hydrologic and measuring data collected to understand the erosion and deposition of sediment and the water level changes so as to plan the embankment construction and flood discharge combined with the dredging work to protect the life and property of the people living in low-lying areas. Moreover, based on the Review of River Mouth Regulation Planning in Toucian River, major protective measures such as river regulation works, dike revetment works engineering, rectification and diversion engineering are proposed as decision-making references for the river management workers.
The research provides not only the analysis results of the sediment erosion and deposition changes in the river mouth, but also the protective countermeasures based on the analysis results. What’ more, it informs the villagers of the high risk of flood in the Old Harbor Island lying in the river. Since it’s difficult to relocate the villagers in the Old Harbor Island at present, the researcher suggests the construction of the circum-island revetment by engineering means, the establishment of water level monitoring and flood pre-warning systems as well as the research & formulation of the evacuation and disaster prevention plans in the short run. In the long run, the entire village needs to be relocated and the Old Harbor Island be turned into a farming and grazing land of low use.
