碩士 / 國立東華大學 / 資訊工程學系 / 99 / Having a driving tour on holidays has become the most common leisure activity. A car navigation system has also become a necessary tool in driving. However, current navigation systems need to pre-download tour and traffic related information and lack for real-time information. In this thesis, we design a mobile navigation service system that can provide real-time traffic statuses and tour guiding information by integrating data broadcasting techniques and networking protocols. Users of our system can easily understand the surrounding area such as transportation and sightseeing information by viewing the system display with a road map and any dynamically marked data.
Our designed system can download real-time traffic data through the Radio Data System - Traffic Message Channel (RDS-TMC), and retrieve location-related or user-interested travel data from a server via mobile wireless networks such as 3G or wireless local area networks. These downloaded data will be appropriately marked on the map in a way specified by users. For fitting to the driving scenario, our system provides audio guiding by the text-to-speech technique. Moreover, the function of locating friends on the map is provided as well. The current positions of friends are displayed on the screen to facilitate any gatherings outside.
