The Fatigue Test on Substrate of Flexible Display for Nautical Charts on Vessels / 應用於船舶海圖之軟性顯示器的耐撓性測試

碩士 / 國立東華大學 / 電機工程學系 / 99 / The nautical charts printed on papers have been replaced by electronic nautical charts at the end of the 20th century. In the 21st century, the electronic products brought not only the convenience by more humanization and motorization, but also replacing the paper printout by the paper-like flexible display. In view of the various tonnages of the national-flagged vessels, the space of wheel houses varied. Plotting on the nautical charts in such limited space on the vessels during the voyages usually caused inconvenience and manpower wasting.
The displays made on flexible substrates can be rolled and put away in a scroll box when it is not in use, and can be used simply by pulling the scroll. Knowing the peculiarities, the speed of single-phase motor is proportional to the voltage and the autotransformer turns is proportional to the voltage. The research of this thesis speculates the life cycles of TCO films and ITO coatings by testing the display characteristics of TCO films and ITO coatings on a specially designed film fatigue test machine, with pulling and rolling forces similar to the actual scroll box, after repeated roll-pull processes based on the number of voyages of the vessels.
Based on our estimation, the threshold voltage of Nematic Phase Liquid Crystal E7 used in this study should be 2.8V. As the result of the experiment, we know the threshold voltage of the Liquid Crystal is 3V ~4V. This reveals that not much power is consumed in the display. However, the light-leakage leads into the wide variation of penetration rate. Some uncontrollable factors are suspected existing in the process such as dust or other micro-material residues. Besides, the injection of liquid crystal was not carried out in vacuum environment; micro-bubble might exist and affect the liquid crystal molecule structure which caused the non-conformity of pre-tilt-angle and anchoring energy with the ideal value. However, the liquid crystal cells of experimental sample group still meet the effects of dynamic response of liquid crystal in the liquid crystal cells.
