碩士 / 國立高雄海洋科技大學 / 漁業生產與管理研究所 / 99 / Age and growth of the needle fish, Tylosurus acus melanotus, caught in the Hsiao-Liu-Chiu waters off southwestern Taiwan, was examined by using otolith ring counting in this study. A total of 658 specimens (329 females and 329 males) were collected monthly from the catches of driftnet between July 2008 and August 2009. The relationships the eye fork length (EFL) and body weight (BW) for females and males are not significantly different and a sexes combined relationship can be expressed as BW=0.0105EFL2.7904 (r2=0.87, n=658). The relationships between eye fork length (EFL) and otolith length (OL) are estimated to be EFL = 7.7823OL1.0249 (r²=0.87, n=290) for females, and EFL = 7.6061OL1.015 (r²=0.82, n=281) for males. Ages were derived from 442 counted otoliths, which the APE average was 1.88%, and CV average was 2.39%. Monthly changes in the marginal increment ratio of the otoliths indicated that annulus formed once a year. The growth parameters of sexes combined von Bertalanffy growth eguation were L∞ = 102.7 cm, k = 0.4482/yr, to = -0.1674/yr.
