碩士 / 國立澎湖科技大學 / 服務業經營管理研究所 / 99 / The labour force faced vigorous competition pressure in global dynamics of different trends. Employees, when situated in this competitive environment, had to stay alert at all times to ensure no chances were to slip away. Consequently it was essential to enhance their abilities and skills to stay in the game. Higher Education Systems should plan the curriculums with futuristic, innovative, yet practical perspectives so that when these courses are offered to the students, they can better prepare them when they enter into the work force. This study used Quality Function Deployment (QFD) to systematically investigate the required professional abilities and skills of the shipping industry. Factor Analysis was applied to obtain the 4 demissions of what students deemed as important in shipping management courses. These 4 demissions are: Basic Fundamental Courses, Air/Sea Transport Management Courses, International Business Management, and Professional Language Skills. These 4 demissions were then combined with shipping industry’s requirement by using QFD to obtain the most wanted abilities required by the shipping industry. Lastly “House of Quality” was used to prioritise the different schemes which could enhance professional abilities and skills of shipping industry employees according to the feasibility levels in execution. The results of this study indicated that 5 main professional courses which required immediate improvements are English in Shipping Industry, Business English, Tramp Shipping Operation, Marine Insurance and Liner Operations.
