碩士 / 國立屏東教育大學 / 視覺藝術學系 / 99 / This research applies literature review and qualitative research methods to understand how to integrate marine education into sixth grade’s Arts and Humanities Learning Area of Taiwan’s elementary school curriculum while examining related pedagogy. The aim of this research is to learn ways teach visual arts classes to help sixth-graders understand the various aspects of marine art and to encourage them to create artworks themselves. Eventually, students should become familiar with sea, achieving the objective of marine education.
In this research, the data was collected through participant observation and interviews, both of which are qualitative research methods. The data was then analyzed and combined with what I had observed in class and related teaching experiences. I also provided an analysis of students’ learning process in my visual arts classes. My research findings are as follows:
1. Marine education can be incorporated into the Arts and Humanities Learning Area through the observation of seascape, reflection on culture and learning about how our society utilizes marine resources.
2. By making creative art an essential part of sixth-grade’s Arts and Humanities Learning Area, teachers can inspire sixth grade students to learn and care about the sea, and to appreciate its beauty.
3. Characteristics of integrating creative art into sixth-grade’s marine education are:
a. Lively class sessions whose themes are closely related to daily life;
b. Frequent use of static and kinesthetic images and multimedia on computer, which help students learn better
c. Based on students’ personal experiences about the sea, the teacher can play a guiding role and enhance students’ marine knowledge.
Finally, based on my research findings, I have some suggestions on how to plan and teach marine art in class as part of the sixth grade’s Arts and Humanities Learning Area.
