Studies on the Learning Performance of Students at Taitung / 台東縣長濱鄉國小學童海洋環境課程教學及學習成效之研究

碩士 / 國立屏東科技大學 / 熱帶農業暨國際合作系所 / 99 / The objectives of this study is to investigate the understanding in marine
environments of students at Taitung Changbin elementary schools and the
learning performance of 4th-6th grades students after marine environmental
courses.

Research framework was designed after the extensive literature review,
arrangement and analysis. 178 students of the Grade 4 to 5 at the Changbin
elementary schools were selected as study samples. The questionnaire of marine
environmental knowledge used on students of 4th-6th grades. The curriculum
teaching plans of marine environmental courses were designed and then applied
to students at 6 elementary schools at Changbin Township, Taitung County. The
test results of marine environmental education obtained both from the
questionnaire survey and curriculum teaching were compared to evaluate
learning performance after receiving the designed courses.

Results obtained from the questionnaire survey showed that marine
recreation and ocean pollution was the most responding exactness rate following
by ocean resource, ocean society and ocean science, and ocean culture was the
least in responding exactness rate. Compared with curriculum teaching and the
range of progress in questionnaire survey, the progress of ocean culture had the
IV

best performance followed by ocean society, marine science, ocean resource,
ocean recreation and ocean pollution. Significant difference between the total
scores of questionnaire survey and curriculum teaching by paired-sample t test
was found. Also, the comparison between two test results in 6 phases was
statistically significant. It was found that the study design of marine education
could meet the interests of students. It fit the local culture characteristics and
feeling of on-site learning, and increased the student’s knowledge in marine
ecological environment, resulting in excellent learning performance.

The significant difference in the results of questionnaire survey in students’
background among tribe, grade, and schools was also observed. In the
questionnaire survey, marine environment knowledge varied with tribe, grade of
student, and schools. Results indicated that aboriginal students, 6th grade student,
and students at SanJian Elementary School scored significantly higher than their
comparison groups. Significant difference was also found in the score of
curriculum teaching of students’ basic information. Girl students scored
significantly higher than boy students due to the high leaning interests and
concentration, and students of 6th grade scored much higher due to their
experienced knowledge and better understanding ability after teacher’s teaching.
According to the research result and discussion, the author finally gives
suggestions about school administration, marine education curriculams and
future research.
