A study of public’s knowledge regarding global warming in Taiwan and Mainland China / 海峽兩岸城市民眾之全球暖化知識探討

碩士 / 國立臺中教育大學 / 環境教育及管理研究所 / 99 / Global warming issues have caught people’s attention and discussions under rapid development of economy, society and education. This paper aims at current knowledge and sources of knowledge of global warming issues of people in Mainland China and Taiwan and understanding the differences of background variables on sources of knowledge.
With questionnaire, survey is made with quota sampling. Questionnaires were sent to Taiwan (Taipei City, Kaohsiung City) and Mainland China (Beijing City and Guangzhou City). In Mainland China, 876 valid questionnaires were collected; in Taiwan, 899 valid questionnaires were collected. Results are:
1. People in Taiwan and Mainland China have average knowledge on global warming while those in Taiwan have higher scores than counterparts in China. Impacts by global warming and improvements have higher correct answer rate while causes to global warming has the lowest correct answer rate.
2. Significant differences are fond in genders, age, education attainment and major subjects, showing that people with different background variables have differences in knowledge of global warming.



3. Major knowledge sources include newspaper and TV news, followed by Internet, books, and magazines. Few people have knowledge from social education institutions or movies.
4. Women in both Taiwan and Mainland China tend to have messages on global warming from TV news than men do and they often discuss global warming issues with families and friends.
