of words in it, it includes geography, history, specialty, mythology,
religion, witchcraft, custom and medicine. People haven’t reached a
consensus about the origin of this book so far, but now most experts agree
that this book is written by many different authors at different times and
different places. That’s why this book contains numerous information
about geography, mythology, customs and encyclopedia.
There are many rare animals and objects recorded in Shanghaijing.
This paper starts with different types of plants, and aims at the study of
Holy Trees. I focus on the study of the holiness and specialty functions of
Holy Trees. Practically, I make analyses about their functions, specialty
and witchcraft and then conclude their meanings.
By reading the description of the Holy Trees, we can know that
witchcraft had a great influence on the ancient people’s thoughts.
Furthermore, the circulation and the structure of the universe, the therapy
of medicine and the worship toward the paradise clearly reveal people’s
worship toward Holy Trees.
