An Experimental Study on Spatial Distribution of Typhoon Wave Overtopping behind NTOU Vertical Seawalls / 颱風期間海大直立式海堤背後越波空間分布試驗研究

碩士 / 國立臺灣海洋大學 / 河海工程學系 / 99 / In present study, wave conditions derived from SWAN model simulation in three damage-causing typhoons Herb (1996)、Sinlaku (2001) and Krosa (2007) were adopted for wave flume tests on spatial distributions of overtopping discharges behind the vertical seawall of National Taiwan Ocean University (NTOU). The experiments were carried out by conducting regular waves and by installing capacity wave gauges in three consecutive collecting chambers for measuring temporal variations of water level. The measured signals were first processed by filter to derive time series of overtopping volume in each chamber and the total volume, respectively. The accumulated total overtopping volume were compared with the empirical formulae of Allsop et al. (1995) and European Overtopping Manual (2007). The results have illustrated that the fitting curve of experimental results in Typhoon Sinlaku’s case was relatively in best agreement with both empirical formulae, especially for dimensionless freeboard . It is also found that the dimensionless freeboard can serve as an effective index on determining the mean overtopping volume . The experimental results also confirm that overtopping volume has been greatly reduced by increasing freeboard height and parapet thickness. The temporal distributions in three chambers in Typhoon Krosa’s case generally display exponential trend. The accumulating parameter decreases with increasing breaking parameter and decreasing incident deep-water wave height. Finally, the experimental incident wave conditions no matter judged from the of Allsop et al. (1995) or the of European Overtopping Manual (2007) which all belong impacting or impulsive conditons, and the results display almost 100% overtopping volume had fallen in the range of 32% of deep-water wave length behind the seawall.
