The Study of water quality of the Da-Han stream and Danshuei Estuary / 大漢溪及淡水河河口海域水質探討

碩士 / 國立臺灣海洋大學 / 海洋環境資訊學系 / 99 / The Da-Han River is the largest tributary of the Danshuei estuary in northern Taiwan. More than six millions of population, exceeding one quarter of Taiwanses, live in the catchment area of the Danshuei River system. Due to over emphasizing the economic development in the past three decades, it is known that the Danshuei River system has been seriously polluted by anthropogenic activity, mostly from the domestic wastewater discharging into the river system. In order to understand the current state of the water quality of the Da-Han River and the Danshuei estuary, the present study analyzed pH, dissolved oxygen, chlorophyll a and nutrients of water samples from the Da-Han River and used the water quality index (WQI) to assess the water quality of the river system.
This concentration ranges of the studied water parameters are as follows: pH, 7.61-8.95; dissolved oxygen, 0.77-8.13 mg/L; phosphate, 0.13-6.49 μM; silicate, 9.44-201.1 μM; ammonia, 1.65-385.5 μM ; nitrite, 0.87-38.6 μM; nitrate, 6.54-131.6 μM; and chlorophyll a, 0.54-3.88 μg/L. The elevated pH values were found in the Da-Han River during the sampled period because of algae bloomed. The WQI value in the middle section of the Da-Han River ranged within 11-23 and the water quality belonged to E-F according to the EPA classification. A slightly better water quality was observed in the Danshuei lower estuary and the WQI value ranged within 16-42 of which water quality belonged to D-E. Overall, the water quality from the Da-Han River to the Danshuei middle estuary is still poor.
