An Action Research on Teaching Program of Marine Adventure Stories to Improve Problem Solving Ability for the Higher-Grade Students in Elementary School / 海洋冒險故事教學方案提升國小高年級學生問題解決能力之行動研究

碩士 / 國立臺灣海洋大學 / 教育研究所 / 99 / The purpose of this research was to explore the results and the effectiveness of teaching program on marine adventure stories to enhance problem solving ability of elementary students. This research contains guided problem solving ability specifically aiming at sixth graders which are thirty-two students of a class within an Elementary School in Keelung. To conduct two cycles of teaching program on marine adventure stories, every cycle was divided into three teaching stages which last 120 minutes of each one. There were 720 minutes within these two cycles. It involved preparing, planning, implementing and composing steps throughout the action research. The researcher used multiple ways to collect data through the teaching diaries, surveys of problem solving ability, students’ surveys, students’ portfolios, students’ survey of opinions, records from expert teachers, feedback from parents, etc. Based on the findings, the researcher reviewed and adjusted the content of teaching. When the researcher finished the action research, the findings were as following:
1. The three stages of “comprehending the problem”, ” providing the solving method” and “evaluating and preventing” in the teaching program on marine adventure stories and the whole problem solving ability were much effective.
2. The findings of this study of the teaching program on marine adventure stories to enhance problem solving ability included three stages of teaching activities which were “comprehending the problem”, “providing the solving method” and “evaluating and preventing”.
3. Difficulties to influence the teaching program on marine adventure stories included discipline of class, teaching equipment, students’ learning styles and students’ reading abilities.
4. After implementing the teaching program on marine adventure stories, students’ adventure and the teacher’s professional development were both promoted.
