碩士 / 國立臺灣海洋大學 / 商船學系所 / 99 / The life saving equipment is the last frontier in the safety of life at sea. It plays a very important role to save human life in the event of emergency case. Life boat is essential in the safety equipment. Therefore its equipment work or not that is worth discussing whether is being tested or being used for real in an emergency.
Life boat accidents except the fortuitous and human factor, accidents reveal that lifting wire broken, life boat tilting over during raising or lowering, crewmen attacked by davit during life boat operation, On -load release system out of order, crewmember overboard or lifting wire snarled by ship’s propeller and so on are frequently happened. Actually these deficiencies are avoidable.
This study analyzes the real cases; all items, such as the life boat code, human factor, life boat proper and its’ accessories (include release hooks) maintenance and drills are scrutinized. Above-mentioned items except release hook are preventable by education and training. This study will focus on the improvement of release hook’s operating system. And modify this equipment by adding a hydraulic system to operate release hooks simultaneously. The new idea has been a test in the experiment. It shows that the life boat works smoothly during raising and lowering operation.
Hopefully, the study could be a reference for ship-owner, ship master, and class surveyor if their life boat has the same raising and lowering system. And again, hopefully the accidents will reduce to a significantly low.
