碩士 / 國立臺北教育大學 / 音樂學系碩士班 / 99 / Gabriel Fauré(1845-1924) is a composer whose music contains classic and romantic styles from the nineteenth century to the twentieth century. His music style is known as “pure music.” His thirteen “Barcarolles” are famous among his piano works and he is the only one who composed series of works titled “Barcarolle” in the music history.
The author chose four of these thirteen “Barcarolles”, including No.2 Op.41, No.5 Op.66, No.8 Op.96 and No.12 Op.106bis, to do analysis and interpretations. The thesis is divided into five chapters. The first chapter is the author’s motivation and purpose of researching the four “Barcarolles,” as well as the origin and development of barcarolle. Chapter 2 describes Fauré’s life, music style, piano music and the progress of composing the thirteen “Barcarolles.” Chapter 3 contains five parts, the first to the fourth parts analyze the four “Barcarolles” through forms, motives, harmonies, rhythms and melodies. The fifth part is a synthesis of similarities and differeneces in these works. Chapter 4 includes five parts; the first to the fourth parts explains the interpretations of the four “Barcarolles.” The fifth part sums up the keys and methods of performance. After the discussion and analysis in previous chapters, chapter 5 is a conclusion in his barcarolles’ characteristics and its place on the stage.
