碩士 / 國立臺東大學 / 健康促進與休閒管理碩士在職專班 / 99 / For the past few years, the surfing activity has been gradually developed here in Taiwan, especially on the east coast of this island, there have been quite a few foreign surfers who were caught on to the surfing activities here in Taiwan. This foretells the east coastal region does possess the potentials for developing into full fledged surfing activity. Main purpose of this research is to analyze the involvement level. In addition, this thesis intends to explore the environmental preference for the surfers. Lastly, the impact to environmental preference by the surfers’ level of involvement will be explored.
The scope of this research encompassed the north bank of the estuary of Ma Wu Creek at Chenggong Township. Questionnaire survey was used to facilitate the samplings during research, and there were 305 effective copies collected. Findings of this research indicated that there were significant differences in gender, residing location, surfing related experience, equipment and source of information as opposed to the level of involvement. Whereas there were significant differences observed for surfer’s attributes like age group, monthly income, residing location, surfing related experience, equipment and information source as opposed to environmental preference. And the “level of overall involvement” and “overall environmental preference” as opposed to all profiles exhibited positive correlations. The level of involvement exhibited positive significance towards environmental preference as well as positive and significant predictability. As a consequence, when surfer recognized the fact that the surfing activity would raise the level of self-attractiveness, he would think highly of the process of participating to surfing as well as the social environment created by interpersonal interaction.
The recommendations for the tourism promotion at eastern part of this island proposed are based upon the findings of this research, such as: transform the weather constraint into the strength, focus on coastal environment management and related facility, promote surfing activity to related tourist products, market and promote east coast surfing tourism. The recommendations to the surfing operators include: select the target subjects and provide customized services, make available the diversified and accommodating measures, satisfy tourists with different levels of surfing experience and strengthen the advantages and create self-made brand names. Lastly, this research will propose the restrictions as well as recommendations for subsequent and ensuing researches.
