The study aims to develop an efficient course syllabus helping elementary school students improve poetry writing skills and marine caring consciousness by integrating marine literature into poetry writing course. The study conducts an experimental poetry writing teaching, in a total of 7 units and 34 classes, on subjects, 15 6th grade students of Pingtung County Liuqiu Township Tiennan elementary school.
The research method includes Culturally Responsive Teaching, Action Research, and Qualitative Research. After going through the process of activities designing, sea experience activities, marine poetry writing, and, marine consciousness and writing skill test, the study uses the tools of teacher observation note, interview record, and T-test to collect the data gathering from real time classroom observation, students’ work sheets, and students’ poetry and then analyzes, reviews, and modifies the data collected.
The result of introducing marine literature in poetry writing class may present as follows:
1. The teaching activities of integrating marine literature into poetry writing course are close to students’ life and help in improving learning efficacy.
2. The course integrating marine literature into poetry teaching may improve the
poetry writing ability of students.
3. The teaching activities of the study acquaint students with local marine
resource and culture, and help improve local identification.
4. The teaching of marine literature broadens students’ reading and mental horizon.
5. The teaching of marine literature may increase the children’s affection for
ocean.
