The Study of Tide Correction at Taiwan Strait Continental Shelf Area / 台灣海峽陸棚區域潮位修正研究

碩士 / 國立臺灣大學 / 海洋研究所 / 99 / Taiwan Strait is a typical continental shelf topographic terrain, and the water depth is shallow. Because of the factor of topography, the tidal range in this area changes more intense relative to the Pacific Ocean east of Taiwan. The maximum tidal range value is occurred at offshore area of Taichung. Due to the shallow water depth and the tidal range value, it is important to do tide correction on raw sounding data at Taiwan Strait continental shelf area.
Most tide gauges in Taiwan had been deployed at the coastline region, thus there is few tide observations at offshore area. Marine surveyors used to do tide correction at offshore survey region with the coastal tide observations correct method. This method will make the difference of tidal height between coastline region and offshore area. In order to make this difference lower, it can use tidal zoning instead of the coastal tide observations correct method. Tidal zoning makes the calculated tide data of offshore area using range corrector and time corrector from the coastal tide observations.
This study using numerical model data, coastal tide observations, and single beam echo sounding data to check the effectiveness of tidal zoning correct method. The result shows using tidal zoning will make lower difference. In addition, this study concluded the responsible region of tide stations located on the western coastline of Taiwan. It will make marine surveyors know how to select the appropriate tide station to do tide correction.
