Harvested Rainwater from Full-Scale and Pilot-Scale Systems in a University / 實際與小型雨水收集系統之研究

碩士 / 國立臺灣科技大學 / 化學工程系 / 99 / Total of 62 rainwater samples were collected from two rainwater harvesting systems (RWHSs) in a campus in northern Taiwan between September 2010 and June 2011. Harvested rainwater was analyzed, including pH, electrical conductivity (EC), turbidity, alkalinity, dissolved organic carbon (DOC), concentration of 14 metals (Al, Ca, K, Mg, Na, Cu, Fe, Mn, V, Zn, Cd, Cr, Pb and Ni) and concentration of 3 anions (Cl-, SO42- and NO3-). In addition, multiple-tube fermentation and conventional polymerase chain reaction (PCR) were included for detection of total coliforms (TC). During antecedent dry days, total suspended particle (TSP) were collected by high-volume sampler and dissolved in the pure water then routine analysis for the same parameters as harvested rainwater samples.

Results of harvested rainwater showed that TR Building RWHS samples had pH in neutral range and high alkalinity content, whereas pilot-scale RWHS in E2 Building possessed acidic pH and low buffer ability. Based on median value of the concentration of 14 metals from two RWHSs, harvested rainwater samples were low in metals concentration except for Na, Ca, K and Mg. Several harvested rainwater samples from both RWHSs exceeded recommended values for Pb and Cd in Taiwan. Results of TSP sample demonstrated that some trace metals, anions and DOC were probably from the long-range transport and local traffic emissions that deposited on the catchment surface. Results of effect of long-term storage showed that pH increased, while EC, turbidity and DOC slightly decreased. Concentration of anions and metals were stable. TC counts of harvested rainwater increased in the beginning then declined with long-term storage. In terms of disinfection, higher concentration of O3 had the best performance with 95 % efficiency of inactivation.
