碩士 / 靜宜大學 / 台灣文學系 / 104 / Reading is a learning skill that lasts for life long. It helps people gain success in school, at work, and also in the society. Through reading, we get to know ourselves, others, the society, as well as the world. The more we read, the more knowledge we get, and the more enhanced our reading capacity would be. Therefore, it is a pressing issue for elementary school teachers, who often play a decisive role in their students’ learning experience, to cultivate their pupils’ interest in and habit of reading, so as to extend their reading potential. It is hoped that, by way of teaching with creative reading, book clubs or reading groups can be formed in a class, so that pupils will get to enjoy reading with an open mind, and thus their ability of learning and understanding will be further developed.
This research is targeted at the fifth- and sixth-graders of the Affiliated Elementary School of Tunghai University. The main goal is to incorporate vivid, lively, and multi-intellectualized creative teaching into the school curriculum in order to make the students become more interested in reading. In addition, their ability and technique in writing will also be strengthened in the process. By way of teaching how to read, children’s intellect, mind, and self-motivated learning can certainly be opened up and further displayed through the wonder of words.
There are seven chapters in this thesis. The first chapter is the general introduction, which reveals the research motif and objectives. The second chapter explains the ideas and the practice strategy of teaching with creative reading. Through effective methods and strategies of teaching, the students’ attention can be held together and their learning motivations ignited. The third chapter discusses the teaching experiment of creative reading in the area of Language. The fourth chapter reviews the teaching experiment of creative reading in the areas of Nature and Life Technology, as well as Math. The fifth chapter examines the teaching experiment of creative reading in the areas of Social Science, as well as Art and Humanity. The sixth chapter investigates the teaching experiment of creative reading in the areas of Health and Physical Education, as well as Integrated Activities. By combining creative reading with the above-mentioned Seven Learning Areas, school pupils will be inspired to learn more efficiently and open-mindedly. The seventh chapter is the conclusion. It provides post-teaching reflections based on teaching efficiency index and evaluations.
