碩士 / 臺北巿立體育學院 / 運動科學研究所 / 99 / This study aims to probe into psychological skills of table tennis players of 10 to 18 years old between Taiwan and Mainland China, and explore the difference of psychological skills regarding athletes of different backgrounds such as regions, gender, ages, playing years, weekly training hours and experience in competitions. Research subjects were male and female players of 10 to 18 years old in Butterfly Cup table tennis tournament of Taipei in 2010, and table tennis tournament of table tennis club of Shandong province in China in 2009. There were 268 valid samples. Research tool was “Sports Psychological Skills Scale” designed by Chiu (2000). Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t test and One-way ANOVA. The results indicated that, regarding psychological skills of athletes of both Taiwan and Mainland China, the score of “coachability” is the highest. As to psychological skills of players in both Taiwan and Mainland China, “confidence” is the lowest. Psychological skills of players of different regions, gender, ages, playing years and weekly training hours are significantly different; psychological skills of athletes with different experiences in competitions are insignificantly different. The conclusions are shown below:
1.Level of table tennis in China is higher than Taiwan. The psychological skills of players of Mainland China are superior to Taiwanese players. The related units and future researchers should pay attention to this finding, and try to find the reasons. Besides enhancing technical training, it is necessary to reinforce Taiwan table tennis athletes’ psychological skills.
2.Performance of women table tennis in Taiwan is increasing in international competitions. The coaches should particularly value female athletes’ psychological skill training, particularly the construction of confidence and coping with stress in order to enhance their performance.
3.The coaches should make efforts recognizing the reasons of Taiwanese athletes’ low motivation in order to help the players enhance training motivation, actively establish training goals and actively pursue sports achievement.
Based on the research findings, suggestions are proposed to coaches, athletes, sports authority, and future studies.
