碩士 / 中華大學 / 運輸科技與物流管理學系碩士班 / 100 / he purpose of this study is analyzing the perception of new immigrant motorcycle riders in traffic signals, marking lines and traffic of Taiwan. From the statistical data of the Ministry of the Interior, total number of marriage immigrants from Mainland China and Southeast Asia is over four hundred thousand people. According to our previous study, most new immigrant families are economical inferiority. Generally, the new immigrant families use motorcycles as their means of transport. If a traffic accident occurs in this kind of family, it would be a huge impact. In traffic safety related studies, the perception of new immigrants in traffic rules is rarely mentioned. Therefore, the related statistical data is also insufficient. In this study, we survey the perception of the new immigrants, who lives in Taichung, in traffic rules by questionnaire. Four districts, which are Dajia district, Da-an district, Cingshuei district, and Waipu district, and the Taichung Immigrant Center of Learning are our studied area. 157 questionnaires were distributed and 149 of them are valid. One-way ANOVA analysis, T test and post-hoc statistical analysis are employed to analyze the questionnaire. According to the results, the new immigrants cannot identify the meaning of the traffic sign "yield", the yield marking line "▽" and the sign "stop". In addition, the accident rate of the newly arrived immigrants is the highest group and the accident rate of the immigrants, who have lived in Taiwan for 5 to 8 years, is the lowest. However, the immigrants, who stay in Taiwan over 9 years, do not have the safest driving behavior. An interesting result is observed, that is, the new immigrants with driving license get more traffic tickets than those without driving license. Thus, we suggest that (1) the related highway administration and transportation department should promote traffic rules to the new immigrants more often; (2) the Motor Vehicle Office can re-examine the drivers or declare the new regulations when they apply driving license renewal, to improve enhance their perception of traffic safety.
