碩士 / 建國科技大學 / 土木與防災研究所 / 100 / Taiwan is an island surrounding by waters. It’s length of coastline is totally about 1600km. In recent years, due to the shortage of the supplying sand sources came from river, the coast has been gradually eroded. But also Taiwan is located at the passing through region of Typhoon, the government would contribute his efforts to construct the costal structure to protect the people’s life and property safety. Then, how to design the wave external force of structure and to estimate the allowable working days are extraordinarily impartant for the marine works.
This study is intended to analyze the big waves of extreme events and to estimate the allowable working days based on the data of the huge waves database(1948-2008) built by Hwang&;Chien(2009), respectively. It will be further analyze the correlations between the big wave extreme events and Nina, La Nino.
Results indicated that the extreme events in recent 60 years(1948-2008) occurred mainly in the period from 1967 to 1974 and the period(2000-2008). The wave hight was high and lasted for long time for the extreme events in the later period. There is a trend of decreasing extreme events occurring in winter in Taiwan’s surrounding waters and a rising trend of summer extreme big wave events. The big wave extreme events in summer are completely caused by Typhoon. With 1985 as the division line, the proportion of extreme events caused by typhoon is higher than the proportion of such events caused by northeaster monsoon, and the propatrion has been increased.
Finally, this study further analyzed change of Taiwan’s surrounding waters in working days, and discussed it’s application. Results indicated that Taiwan surrounding maritime areas maritime focus works to be the number of days in June-October, which went the highest probability of October, but the eastern part of the terrain relative to the West Bank is so grim, October can working probability is less than 1/3 of the west. For Kinmen waters, results of the available number of working days were roughly same as the waters west of Taiwan.
